We’re soooo excited that we’re finally sharing our images from our baby shower and some tips on planning along the way! Hi, we’re David and Meivys, a husband and wife photography team based in South Florida. We photograph weddings, portraits, and brands. We share all about life, marriage, and business over at @suarezpartyoftwo. Welcome and we can’t wait to connect with you!
When we first started talking about a baby shower, we were honestly not sure if we’d have one at all, then we thought a drive through might be the best or a virtual shower, but knowing us and our families, an intimate in person event would ultimately win in our pros and cons list, so we decided on a small gathering with our closest family and friends. We hosted our shower at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables and absolutely loved it. They were very attentive to our needs and wants and the servers were sweethearts! We had such an amazing time with our intimate group of family and friends.
Inspiration:
We were inspired to do a hot air balloon theme from a book we found at target titled Who You Were Meant to Be by Joanna Gaines. The book celebrates creativity and acceptance as the children and families in the book build their unique hot air balloons for an adventure.
Color Palette:
Since I have always been a girly girl and lover of pink, we decided on doing a color palette that would match not only the aesthetic of the venue, but also wanted to select soft, pastel colors that would go well together. We ended up with shades of pinks, gold, greens, and white. I loved how they all combined the day of the party.
The Details:
Its all in the details! Because we lost our puppy, Kelvin, just a month and a bit before the baby shower, we wanted to include details that would honor him. We named the Signature Drink after him, had special desserts made and embossed a baby-puppy logo on the favors. It was very hard for us to celebrate when we had so recently lost our first born (that’s what we like to call him) But it was a beautiful way to honor him throughout the event and we know that if heaven weren’t so far away, he would have totally been with us (The Hyatt is dog friendly!) If you want to read his story, click here. Our centerpieces were a mission! We were supposed to have Italian Ruscus along the tables, but turns out the week of the shower was the first week they were out of season and we couldn’t find them anywhere!! So we went with another similar option and added baby’s breath to make it happen. We used plenty of items we already had at home and items that we would eventually add in her room, like blocks, a wooden camera (ofcourse) frames, and small toys – that way we could get the most use out of them.
Food and Drink:
For food and drinks we wanted something easy and uncomplicated, but we also wanted it to be yummy and inclusive to what everyone would like. We ordered appetizers from Sergio’s (a local Cuban restaurant) both with and without meats just in case and we had a seafood paella. We also has a signature drink – red and white Sangrias and had the hotel use fruits Kelvin used to love. Our dessert cart featured flan, tres leche and passion fruit shooters as well as custom cookies honoring our angel puppy, with baby girl’s name, and we also had cake pops. Our cake was a pineapple coconut cake with the yummiest frosting of life!
Entertainment:
Since we hosted our baby shower on Father’s Day, we wanted to do something special for the dads so not only did we have custom beer mugs for them upon their arrival, we also had a Mariachi Band come play a serenade with a song list dedicated to the fathers present – even new dad-to-be David. Since we’re having a baby girl, we asked the guests to come to the dance floor with their daughters for a special father daughter dance to a classic – Mi Niña Bonita by Vicente Fernandez. It was so sweet and surely stirred up some happy tears. When hosting, we love to ensure there is some kind of entertainment so that you’re not stuck talking the entire time. It gives us a breather and allows everyone to enjoy.
Games and Activities:
I think we were a bit tired of the same old baby shower games that we play over and over – However, there were some classics we just couldn’t give up. We did a sock hunt, mommy’s belly size, baby bingo, diaper raffle, wishing ring, don’t say baby, late night diaper, baby lottery, and the all time favorite beer baby bottle race! We also had some specific games for the kids since we did allow kids at the baby shower. We gave them their own table with a custom coloring book and crayons, table games, and then in addition we had 2 games (with prizes!) for them: diaper changing game and a scavenger hunt. I’ll be writing another blog post all about the games we played and the instructions.
