When it comes to family photos, the where matters just as much as the who. Choosing the right location can completely elevate your session—whether you love the elegance of historical gardens, the laid-back vibes of a beach day, or the comfort of your own home, there’s something here for every family.

Here are 28 of the best locations for family portraits in South Florida—each one chosen with love and experience.

Hi, I’m Meivys—a light and airy Miami family photographer. I’ve had the joy of photographing hundreds of families over the years, and one of my favorite parts of the process is helping you find the perfect location that reflects your family’s unique personality and story.

From dreamy gardens to cozy homes and golden beaches, I’ve scouted the best spots in South Florida so you don’t have to. I believe family photos should feel natural, joyful, and full of love—just like your real life.

Historical Locations

If you’re dreaming of elegance, old-world charm, and lush gardens…

1. Vizcaya Museum & Gardens (Miami)
European-style architecture, fountains, and secret garden corners—an iconic favorite for timeless portraits. Any time will work for this location because there is just so much to capture.

2. Coral Gables Prado Entrance (Coral Gables)
Classic Spanish-style arches, fountains, and tree-lined roads make this spot a hidden gem. I love to photograph sessions here in the early mornings or golden hour evening light.

3. Bonnet House Museum & Gardens (Fort Lauderdale)
Tropical meets historic—perfect for vibrant photos with character and charm. It’s bright, vibrant and almost feels like you’re in a Latin American country!

4. Ancient Spanish Monastery (North Miami Beach)
Steeped in history, this location offers a truly unique and spiritual setting for family portraits. There’s big trees and gardens and a beautiful Spanish style hallway, so pretty!

5. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden (Coral Gables)
A lush oasis with wide open spaces, winding paths, flowers of all sizes and tropical lush greenery you can’t help but awe over!

Park Locations

Nature lovers, this section is for you—think green, open skies, and perfect light!

6. Hugh Taylor Birch State Park (Fort Lauderdale)
A slice of forest in the middle of the city with trails, trees, and quiet beauty. It also connects to the beach so if you have a longer session you can do two locations in one.

7. Matheson Hammock Park & Marina (Coral Gables)
Bay views, a quiet lagoon, and perfect golden hour light—what more could you want? A marina, yes, they have that too!

8. Vista View Park (Davie)
Rolling hills (yes, in Florida!) and a wide horizon. Great for golden hour family shots and picnics. There’s also a hill at the end that overlooks the whole city, it’s beautiful and the light is amazing!

9. A.D. Barnes Park (Miami)
A beautiful and quiet gem with shaded trails and nature paths—a peaceful setting that photographs beautifully if you love greenery.

10. Robbins Lodge Park (Davie)
Woodsy, peaceful, and filled with charming wooden fences and oaks. This place looks like a dreamy forest!

Beach Locations

There’s nothing like toes in the sand, salty air, and dreamy skies for family portraits.

11. South Pointe Park Pier (Miami Beach)
Ocean views, artful rocks. A classic Miami favorite. Plus, the shore is always very clean! Best time for this location is sunrise or early mornings where there are not as many people. A Miami family photographer favorite!

12. Miami Beach (Various Locations)
Bright, iconic, and natural—endless options for timeless portraits. These are less crowded areas of Miami Beach that we’ve scouted and loved. They’re walking distance to touristy locations so you can enjoy dinner after the session.

13. Dania Beach Pier (Dania Beach)
Quieter than South Beach, with a beautiful pier that adds character to your session. There’s also a soft patch of tall grass on the sand that photographs beautifully at golden hour.

14. Miami Lighthouse at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park “El Farito” (Miami)
Palm trees, dunes, and a lighthouse—perfect for that beachy but elevated look. A Miami family photographer favorite, “El Farito” is a staple, a must have in family session locations list!

15. Key Biscayne Beaches (Key Biscayne)
Peaceful and full of natural beauty, ideal for intimate, candid moments. The water is pretty shallow and almost no waves so it’s perfect if you want photos *in” the water.

City Locations

Urban vibes meet modern energy—perfect for stylish families and trendy looks.

16. Worth Avenue (Palm Beach)
Luxury, architecture, and dreamy walkways. Think chic vacation meets timeless style, lifestyle meets portraits. There’s also a clock tower and a beach across the street so it’s a great location for a longer session.

17. Lincoln Road (Miami Beach)
Palm trees, shops, and a touch of art deco. Perfect for playful yet fashionable photos. This is fun! There’s art, shopping and food halls along the way, think date night or vacation vibes for your session.

18. Brickell (Downtown Miami)
Skyline views, modern vibes, and sleek architecture. Great for families with older kids.

19. Design District (Miami)
Art meets fashion. Bold colors, murals, and luxury backdrops for a contemporary twist. There’s recognizable areas and the Garage Museum with all its colors make this location so.much.fun!

20. Las Olas Boulevard (Fort Lauderdale)
Quaint streets, waterfront, and vibrant colors—a charming mix of city and coastal. There’s also a ton of history and diverse views.

Indoor Studio Locations

Perfect for rainy days, toddlers, styled setups, or those who love controlled lighting.

21. Chillhouse Studio (Miami)
Minimal and modern with great natural light. This is our studio home for now and a personal favorite, we love it and you’ll love it too! We can do minimal, we can get creative, we can do the most – and serve you cafecito!

23. Cieloh Studios (Miami)
Trendy, versatile, and filled with props and setups for a custom feel. It’s cozy and warm and always on it with new additions and spaces.

24. The Spaces (Dania Beach)
Known for its clean lines, minimalist spaces, and great lighting setups—ideal for polished portraits. They can accommodate extended families and have the coolest, biggest sofa of all time!

25. Dream Studios Co (Miami)
Playful yet polished indoor space with multiple custom setups and neutral tones for a classic look. I love this for a modern, fun but sophisticated family session.

Unique Locations for Family Portraits in South Florida

Make it personal, make it you. These are one-of-a-kind ideas that tell your story.

26. Redland Cottage (Homestead)
Cozy, white, and neat. A South Florida secret. It’s like you’re in the middle of Home & Gardens Magazine, a southern Belle’s dream with modern touches.

27. Sand & Stardust Studios (North Miami)
Two studios that are connected, but totally different – one is cozy and vintage while the other is coastal with an actual sand backyard. They’re rented separately, but they’re both stunning and one of our favorites!

28. Your Home!
There’s something beautifully nostalgic about capturing your family in your own space. Whether it’s baking in the kitchen, cuddling on the couch, or running barefoot in the backyard—home sessions allow kids to feel relaxed and parents to breathe easy. If this is the route you want to go for, you’ll send us photos of your home and we’ll tell you if it’s the best option for your family. Tip: Declutter surfaces, open the blinds for light, and choose two or three areas of the home to keep things flowing during the session.

Things to Consider Before You Book with a Miami Family Photographer

Permits & Fees

Some of these stunning locations do require photography permits, entrance fees, or photography passes. We always recommend checking the location’s official website or giving them a quick call. We’re happy to guide you through the permit process too!

Timing is Everything

For outdoor locations, golden hour—that dreamy time right after sunrise or before sunset—makes all the difference. It’s when the light is soft, flattering, and extra magical.
Indoor studios and home sessions are more flexible and can be scheduled during daylight hours, depending on the natural or artificial lighting available.

Color Palettes & Wardrobe Tips

Your outfit choices help tell the story of your session. Think about how and where you’ll display these photos. Neutrals, soft pastels, and solid tones work beautifully for our light and airy style, creating timeless, joy-filled images. Avoid bold patterns or logos, and when in doubt, coordinate—don’t match! But also, don’t worry because we help style you and even give you links to shop outfits!
