Jessica is the sweetest and Jovany is so fun! We had a blast when we went to their wedding this past February. Their wedding was in the historic Cartagena, Colombia. This has to be one of our favorite trips ever because not only did we get to spend time with these two, but we got to explore the city and all of the traditions, culture, food, and attractions. After Jessica + Jovany’s wedding, we decided that we LOVE destination weddings and hope this new year brings a ton of travel our way. Cheers to travel and love!
To give you a little back story about the couple…Jessica and Jovany met working together at Walgreens in 2014, but never really spoke past the occasional hello. Two years later, they began talking via Facebook and then followed with their first date to watch a Colombian soccer game. Shortly after, he placed a gift on the bed as they were getting ready and popped the question. It was simple and intimate, just what Jessica wanted. That night they celebrated by going to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino with their friends.
They began wedding planning and although their initial idea was to go with a turquoise color, they ended up searching through Pinterest and found the pop of color they were looking for, so they decided to stay neutral with white, green, and a pop of red in all their details. They then looked at locations, they wanted a destination wedding. Jovany is from Puerto Rico and Jessica is Colombian. They decided on The Hilton Cartagena and found a local wedding planner, Jorge Ricardo, to help them put together their beautiful day.
They added multiple cultural elements to their wedding such as “The Mulatas” a folklore dance group that is a tradition in Cartagena, Colombia. They were at the exit of the church and guided the guests and Bride/Groom through the town as a traditional celebration of becoming newlyweds. We had no idea that this was going to happen and were happily surprised! It was one of our favorite parts of our trip. This tradition made the ceremony unique and fun! “The Mulatas” and Drummers were lively and smiling the whole way through our route. They played music and danced with each other and the guests. We had never seen anything like it! Truly a must have for a coastal Cartagena wedding.
They also had multiple details in their wedding like a cultural photo backdrop and coffee sacks as favors. The decoration included flowers imported from all over the country and a beautiful white cake decked with red roses. The pop of color was visible in Jessica’s shoes, Jovany’s socks and bow tie, their reception decor, and Jessica’s bouquet.
